The MusicianShip’s Wammie Weekend Returns on March 27-29, 2020
Legendary D.C. Music Awards Program Is Back for Its 32nd Year
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – D.C. – Wammie Weekend is back to celebrate D.C.-area musicians and artists on March 27-29, 2020. For the second year in a row, the event will span more than two days, with its pre-launch party on March 27 at Capital Turnaround, its day-long conference on March 28 at Culture House, culminating in its awards show at the Lincoln Theatre and afterparty at Marvin on March 29.
"This year, we’re incredibly proud to continue to expand our programming during Wammie Weekend,” says Jeffery Tribble Jr., Executive Director, The MusicianShip. “We’re excited to feature D.C-area music luminaries for an event full of music education, celebration, and community-building. What’s most special about this event is that we feature local artists and speakers, and our award-winners are nominated and voted on by peers across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region. We’re honored to host an event that strengthens community through music.”
Featured performers over the weekend include Critical Condition Band, Innanet James, Eli Lev, Christylez Bacon, Carolyn Malachi, Bumper Jacksons Duo, Yaddiya, CVRTER, DJ Heat, DJ Breemz, and Alfredo Mojica + Friends.
The awards show, hosted by Sunni And the City, will feature more than 50 categories across Artistic and General Interest groups, including Choral, Classical, Funk, Jazz, Punk, R&B, Music Media, Music Venue, Advocacy, and more.
Wammie Weekend is organized by The MusicianShip, a D.C.-based nonprofit that is focused on changing lives with music. Proceeds from Wammie Weekend helps to support The MusicianShip’s free-of-charge music programs, this year serving over 1600 youth, and continues to be a resource for local D.C. artists and musicians. In addition to Wammie Weekend, The MusicianShip oversees the DC Funk Parade, The Washington Youth Choir, and its newly-launched Private Music Lessons Program.
