Music Genre Award Categories
Award categories will not be awarded which do not have a minimum of three (3) nominees.
General Interest Award Categories
An individual or organization (artist, musician, band, or institution) in the DC Region that has championed a social cause that has benefited the DC music community as a whole.
A Wammies DMV Region media entity, website, platform, or social media account that has excelled in enriching, educating, and entertaining via regional content delivery methods.
A music venue, nightclub, or restaurant from our regional community that has actively hosted live performances in the eligible award year.
A music recording studio within our regional community that has actively produced music in the eligible award year.
Presented for the best video representation of a nominated song. Video must be:viewable through a publicly searchable platform such as YouTube or Vimeo (eg. must be “public” meaning it can be searched for and found, not just “unlisted” which requires having the direct link). for music that was linked in an eligible nomination for one of the Best Song, Best Artist-Group, or Best Album nominees for this year’s Wammie Awards.
A performing artist or group that is made up of youth 18 years of age or younger. All music genres are eligible for this award. Artists/Groups nominated in other award categories ARE ALSO ELIGIBLE to be nominated for Best Youth Artist-Group. Member(s) of this Artist-Group must all have been under 18 years of age during all, or part, of this Wammie eligibility year. Must meet all other eligibility criteria. Parent/guardian permission is required to win.
Appointed Categories
Given to a native DMV-based recording artist whose overarching body of work has been embraced by a worldwide scope of music enthusiasts and emerging musicians and whose repertoire and collaboration with a variety of well-noted entertainers continue to uplift the DMV music community.
Presented to a teaching professional from our public school system whose unwavering commitment and noteworthy accomplishments in music education, curriculum development, and mentorship, have changed the life trajectory of aspiring youths, some of whom are from the region's most marginalized communities.
Presented to an individual whose ongoing contributions effectively amplify awareness for changes in local legislation, public policy, and/ or equity in access that further engages the DMV’s regional music culture and its creative ecosystem, while supporting a diverse scope of musicians, entertainers, and live performers.
Given to A DMV Native whose evolving life's journey in the music arena has led to the ongoing commitment to creative excellence in music, film, or other live performance arts while making significant contributions to uplift and serve the community. The honoree is a shining example of "living local and achieving global."
Bestowed upon an individual whose lifelong contribution to the DMV Music Community through advocacy, education, equity, live performance, and/or philanthropy. This honoree is a Music Industry Ambassador who for more than 30 years has been embraced by many and is considered an influencer to even more, blazing a path of opportunity for those who followed, and more important created a sound that serves as an anthem to the community and a legacy that has changed lives.
Bestowed upon an individual whose long-standing accomplishments and leadership in the music industry have created timely exposure, access, and opportunity while serving as a central point for information exchange and advocacy for business owners on both the national and regional levels who operate in the music and live performance ecosystem.
