The MusicianShip Announces Finalists for the 2020 Wammie Awards

Categories for the 32nd Awards Show Span More Than 50 Genres

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – D.C. – On February 12, The MusicianShip released the finalists for the 2020 Wammie Awards. After a month-long voting period open to residents in the DMV area, top contenders in more than 50 categories are now available. Since last year, nominations across all categories rose from 344 to 694 and unique voters skyrocketed from 519 to 3,032.

“The diversity of genres and artists represented by the pool of finalists reflects the immense musical talent we have in the DMV area. D.C. has long been an epicenter of creativity and innovation, and this year’s Wammie Awards finalists are no exception,” said Jeffery Tribble, Executive Director of The MusicianShip. “We’re excited to celebrate these artists and their achievements at Wammie Weekend 2020.”

Winners will be revealed during Wammie Weekend, with awards handed out at the Day Conference on March 28, 2020 at Culture House and the Awards Show on March 29, 2020, hosted by Sunni And the City at The Lincoln Theatre. Performers at Wammie Weekend include The Critical Condition Band, Innanet James, Eli Lev, Christylez Bacon, Carolyn Malachi, and more. Wammie Weekend programming is supported by The MusicianShip, a D.C.-based nonprofit that is focused on changing lives with music. Proceeds from Wammie Weekend help support The MusicianShip’s free-of-charge music programs, this year serving over 1600 youth, and continues to be a resource for local D.C. artists and musicians. In addition to Wammie Weekend, The MusicianShip oversees the DC Funk Parade, The Washington Youth Choir, and its newly-launched Private Music Lessons Program.
